COLLECTION NOTE

A NOTE FROM MARC

This collection is a celebration of all that is present irrespective of its place in time. I have always found comfort in the familiar and the frequent return to the things that move me visually, emotionally and intellectually. It is an acknowledgment of moments past – now so digitally present – and a consideration of the innumerable moments captured in the fleeting now.

During the designing of this collection, I often found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of visual stimulation and the wonderful memories of days gone. As I explored the online archive of all the imagery that inspires others (both the individuals familiar to me and those not), it reinforced my belief in the power and importance of visual language, the beauty of individual style, imagination, creativity, instinct and feeling.

When I look around New York City in all its revelry, I do not lament the past but always consider the people, places and things as they were in their moment. It is this city that never sleeps or stops rousing, giving and taking away, razing and rising, inspiring and conspiring. Let us take back the night but embrace tonight and the presence of present tense. Let us celebrate the beauty of pride in equality and all things in their natural integrity.

SNAPSHOT

Featured on the Spring 2016 runway, the Snapshot is an innovative, playful and versatile bag. With a classic camera bag shape, the Snapshot is instantly elevated by ambitious design details and interesting materials. A removable guitar strap and zippers that ironically open in opposite directions, compliment the Snapshot’s wide variety of patterns including bold color blocking, splatter paint, embossed snake, sequin checkers and a 3D glasses motif inspired by one of Marc’s many tattoos. Highlighted with oversized interlocking “Js” hardware, the small bag delivers a big impact.

J,MARC.

Marc Jacobs premieres the J,Marc.: a classic handbag made extraordinary with luxurious materials and a meticulous attention to detail. Built around the signature interlocking “Js” closure, a play on heritage logos, J,Marc. was seen on the Spring 2016 runway in an array of colors and rich materials. Complimenting the decorative details of the RTW collection, the python offering features Luck, Beauty, Cinema, and Maritime themed patches. With its iconic shape and inspired imagery the J,Marc. perfectly embodies the sophisticated revelry of Marc Jacobs.

MADISON

Playing on Marc’s Spring 2016 path of taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary, the Madison is a classic handbag shape that is made special with distinctive graphic details. A utilitarian outer flap pocket takes center stage, highlighted with the ‘Marc Jacobs’logo stamped in gold. Bold, contrasting color combinations that complement the ready-to-wear designs of the runway, highlight the clean geometric lines.  Offered in soft, Italian leather and rich, velvety suede, the Madison celebrates the everyday and the extraordinary.

GOTHAM

Identifying New York City as his personal idea of ‘America,’Marc introduces the Gotham City; a group of handbags that are as functional as they are interesting.  Definitive shapes, formed in strong pebbled leather, are paired with thick webbing straps that nod to the heavy music influence seen throughout the five boroughs. Bold hardware accent color stories that pull from the Americana-themed Spring runway show, creating a unique look that exudes the spirit of Marc Jacobs.
